Betty Watson
Director of Farm Drive Neighborhood Ministries |
I came with my husband Darrell and our children Karen (Isaacson) and Sandra (Bradley) to Hillside Church in 1972. We have been active members at Hillside in a variety of ministries and leadership positions during all those years.
My first involvement with Farm Drive was in spring of 1993 as a volunteer when I first began assisting children with their homework. In the fall of 1995 our Missions Board rented an apartment and I assumed the position of volunteer director, setting up our first “Center” in the neighborhood. By the Spring of 1996 it became clear that a fulltime director was needed and for the next several years I was not involved at Farm Drive as the Lord took me in some different directions of ministry.
I earned my teaching credential at San Jose State University in Elementary Education in 1964 and then taught school the following three years before assuming the role of fulltime homemaker. During the years that Karen and Sandra were in school, I worked as a part time Home/Hospital instructor for SJUSD working with children who were out of school for extended periods of time. This became a ministry as well as a profession.
In June of 2001 I retired from teaching believing life was going to slow down for me. God had different plans however and in March of 2002 I resumed leadership direction of the Ministry “Friends of Farm Drive” now located at 3110 Dakan Ct.
It is an exciting place to be, watching God at work in lives daily. It is a privilege to serve with many volunteers at the Center. My heart’s desire is to see individuals come to know the Lord Jesus personally and to experience the peace and joy that only HE can give.
