Have you ever had a period in your life when you turned to the book of Job? (“When ________ happened it made me think about Job.”) When you hear “Job”, what comes to mind? Have you or anyone you know “lost everything”? Briefly tell your story. Did you focus on God, Satan, or did you identify with Job? Look at verses 1:20-22. Have you had any similar reactions to loss? What kinds of things tap into your soul and speak to it – what type of things move you? (Literature, movies, nature...) Are you a fan of poetry? Regardless of whether you’ve ever read it or not, do you expect or assume that Job has a special ability to connect to anyone and everyone, throughout time? Job said suffering is inevitable. Do you agree? Do you find that suffering is necessary for truly loving God? Has suffering, loss, or disappointment ever increased your devotion to God? If it hasn’t already been said, was there another way the sermon connected with something going on in your life right now? | |
