When people are hurting around you, are you drawn to them or do you feel awkward and unsure what to do – maybe even avoiding them? When others are aware of your pain, do you like them to come close or stay away? Tell a story.

Has anyone ever talked to you as if they were relaying a message from God? Share positive and negative examples. (God told me that… or, If you only had more faith…)

How does Job regard the food for thought offered by Eliphaz (6:5-6)? Have you ever been totally misunderstood by your closest friend? How did that make you feel?

Can correct theology (all the right words) ever be “bad” theology in practice? When? What real or hypothetical situations come to mind?

What part of the message connected with something going on in your life now? Are you needing comfort, or are you in a position to comfort?
