Thanks to Job, we have clear examples of how to be a bad friend who gives bad counsel. Talk about a time when someone really comforted you. What positive examples do you treasure?
Why doesn’t God do something about the suffering of the innocent, the poor, the helpless children? What is your answer to this common question? Is there a particular situation of injustice that really grieves you and you ask, “Why, God?”
Murderers, thieves and adulterers – Job says many go unpunished. What sin in our day appears to go unpunished? Give an answer about “the world” in general, but also try to think of instances effect you personally. (Don’t use names.) It’s as if some people get away with murder. (24:12-18) Job expresses two extremes in the same breath; he’s frustrated that God seems distant (23:1-9), yet he also trusts that God is involved (23:10-14). Is this satisfying to you or is it a contradiction? Have you ever had these opposing feelings when you were going through something difficult? So, enough about suffering...what’s the best thing going on in your life right now?! | |
