SUDAN Famine Relief

Hillside is partnering with ReachGlobal, the International Ministry arm of the Evangelical Free Church of America, to support famine relief efforts in Southern Sudan.

Three years ago Sudanese refugees returned to a land that many had never seen. With very few skills they began to build their communities; the development was very slow, and they learned as they went along. In August 2009 a severe drought paved the way for a catastrophic famine. The past three years were not enough time to learn how to cultivate their land and build up reserves. Many of the EFCS (Evangelical Free Church of Sudan) churches have reported that they are out of food for their families and have returned to finding food as their ancestors did. Many are living on roots, plants and whatever else they can find. The situation is serious and neighboring countries are unable to help. The last report from our EFCS pastors is that fifteen people have died from starvation in their villages alone. It is often the children who suffer from malnutrition and starvation the most. WE CAN HELP!

One of our missionaries is working with EFCS leaders to develop and carry out the most strategic relief plan possible.


During December, Hillside will collect monetary gifts in the wooden box in the Lobby to support famine relief and feed the Sudanese.
