FARM DRIVE NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER
Farm Drive is located at 3110 Dakan Court, just 6/10ths of a mile from Hillside Church. “Friends of Farm Drive” officially began in June of 1992 in front of an apartment on Farm Drive (thus the name of the ministry). Several Hillside people had a love for the people in the neighborhood and began a Bible Club on a patch of dirt on Farm Drive.
Farm Drive has grown and changed a lot over the years. We now have an apt. building we meet at. All activities we have are for the Farm Drive Neighborhood kids and families. God has been faithful and we are excited to see what He will do in the future. He is constantly at work. If you have any questions or you are interested in being a part of this exciting and rewarding ministry, contact Patty Havens at firstname.lastname@example.org or 408.781.5984.
Homework Club: We have Homework Club (homework assistance) four afternoons a week. Elementary age kids come on Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 to 5pm and junior high and high school kids come on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 5pm. Kids are placed in a small group of no more than 6 kids. We love helping kids with their homework!
Bible Club: We have Bible Club every Saturday from 10am to 12pm for neighborhood kids in Kindergartern thru high school. Kids play street hockey, pool, basketball, etc. and then they have breakfast. They meet in small groups for a lesson / teaching time. Older kids (high school) get to make their own special breakfast and eat together!
Pre-Kinders: Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9am to 10:30am we have a pre-kinders class at the Center. Kids learn all kinds of things, from writing their letters and numbers to using scissors, using play dough, doing puzzles and much more. This helps to prepare them for kindergarten.
Bike Club: Every Wednesday night we have a group of people, including kids in the neighborhood, fixing bikes for neighborhood kids.
CRAM: Committed.Relational.Accountable.Motivated. This is a program where an adult mentors a high school student with the goal of helping the student get into college or job skill training. CRAM is incentive based. When kids meet the requirements, they earn gift cards, go on special activities, earn cash and when they graduate they receive a laptop. CRAM is all about building relationships with these kids, loving them, pointing them to Jesus and helping them succeed. Every year we have an average of 15 kids involved in CRAM.
Summer Activities: Every summer when the kids are out of school, we do all kinds of fun things with the kids. We do educational trips like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, San Francisco Zoo and museums. We also have many swim parties. We open the Center so the kids can play basketball, pool, hockey etc. We go on a camping trip at Memorial Park every summer which is a highlight for the kids.
Street Hockey: For many years we have partnered with "Sharks n Parks" to give the kids an opportunity to play street hockey. We start weekly practices in the summer and this continues through September. Our Team called The Farm Drive Homies, plays against other teams in an all day street hockey tournament. The tournament is in the SAP Center parking lot in September. The neighborhood kids look forward to this every year!
Iglesia Libre Neighborhood Bible Study: Every Wednesday evening at the Center there is a small group of neighbors meeting with a few people from Iglesia Libre, Hillside's Spanish Church, to learn more about the Bible, family, and life.
Neighborhood Classes: We are always trying to be responsive to the needs of the neighborhood. One way we do that is by providing classes for parents, as needed, on topics such as parenting skills, ESL, etc.
Food Distribution: Farm Drive has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank for many years. The first Tuesday of every month a group of faithful volunteers show up at Hillside, unload a semi loaded with food, bag the food and put the food into carts for 140 families. We work from 1pm to 5pm and have a great team but we are always looking for more volunteers!
Our mission statement: Loving. Caring. Living Out the love of Jesus in the Farm Drive neighborhood, and leading kids and their families to know Him and follow Him.
Neighborhood Kids are a part of Hillside. Kids in this neighborhood now call Hillside their church. Several of our kids go to the Kids Zone (for elementary age kids) and the junior high and high school youth groups. Our kids serve at Hillside too by ushering and helping in the Children's Ministry. This is exciting news!
